This Is The Right Time To Apply Eye Cream

posted in Around The Eyes on
When you need help with skincare, you turn to the experts. One Women's Health Magazine reader asked, "For the best wrinkle-prevention results, should I be applying eye products at night and in the morning? Or is nighttime enough?"  Francesca J. Fusco, M.D., the assistant clinical professor of dermatology at the Icahn School of Medicine at the Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City came through with a breakdown of exactly when you should be applying your eye products, and what type of products you need in your routine.

Dr. Fusco says, "Because the skin around your eyes is thin and you use the surrounding muscles all day long (blinking, squinting, etc) I recommend using eye products - yes, you may want to layer multiple types - both morning and night.

Dr. Fusco suggests reading the labels to pick the products that cater to your needs (moisturizing, dark circles, etc), and apply them in order from thinnest to thickest - liquids, then gels, serums, lotions, creams, ointments. She also recommends always applying your eye products before face products, such as SPF.)

Dr. Fusco has created two eye routines for the morning and evening:
Morning:
After cleansing your skin, apply an eye serum that targets your problem (for example, if that's dullness, try one that says "brightening"), and even better if it also contains vitamins C (protection from free radicals) and E (an antioxidant).

Evening:
An hour before you go to bed (this gives the products time to absorb before you lie down on bedding), cleanse your face, then use a retinol eye cream, followed by a moisturizer for your eye area.
